Wednesday students: make-up class information

Hi everyone!

We need to “make up” a class since we missed 1 because of Election Day.  Instead of coming to school at night, you will be able to do this assignment at home:)  You may do this alone OR with the same partner you did your midterm podcast with.

Here’s the information:

1)  Go to http://www.eslwriting.org/3224/learn-how-to-write-a-summary/#more-3224.

2) Watch the short video (“La Nuit Blanch”) 1 time.  Think about the 5Ws/1H: Why, What, Who, When, Where, and How.

3) Now, watch it a second time taking notes.

4) Talk about what happens in the video on your Podomatic.com account OR send a .wav or .avi file to mgoldmancdi@yahoo.com.

5) This assignment is due Wednesday, 5/30 (Week 13) no later than 11:59 PM.  This counts for your attendance grade for 4/11′s missed class.  If you complete it, I’ll mark you as “attending.”  If you don’t complete it, I’ll have to mark you as “absent.”

English majors ONLY: Project information

Create your own audio podcast!

Due: the week you signed up for

Worth: 20% of your final grade

1)    You and your partner (individual podcast for Intermediate class) will create your own 3- 5-minute podcasin English using the websitePodOmatic.com.  You will talk about your graded readers.  Most of you have different books, so you can compare them, debate about which one is more fun to read, act as book critics, etc.  Be as creative as you want: you can pretend you’re hosting a talk show, you can “be” your main character/s, or you can just pretend you’re on a radio show.

2)    Each partner (Basic Conversation and Writing class) must speak for 1.5 minutes – minimum.  Intermediates: you must speak for 3-5 minutes by yourself.  Pronunciation and speaking clearly are really helpful to listeners.  Please see me if you need some help with difficult words.

3)    You and your partner must participate in this project equally; you will both earn  the same grade.  Read the podcast rubric to understand how I will be grading you.  You will also hear yourself in class.  Writing a script or rough draft will be really helpful!  You will feel more confident in not only hearing your voice on the website and in class, but also it will keep your project focused.

4) Your podcast MUST BE ORIGINAL.  DO NOT copy someone else’s work or use someone else’s script; I will know and you will get an “F.”

5) You can add music or pictures/images if you want, but these are not required.

6)    No podcast – no grade. Don’t forget to upload your podcast to the Podomatic.com website and become my “follower.”  You don’t need to upload anything to Edublogs.
